As Sangamitra laid all alone on the hospital bed, counting her days down that she could probably live, memorable thoughts of Sri Lanka pondered through her mind. She would never forget those times till the day she closes her eyes forever.“Mitra, where are you? Mitra’s mother questioned her. She continued and exclaimed loudly, “Our citizenship has been approved by the government!” It was the period 1948 when the Ceylon citizenship act was in place. Sangamitra was a young girl back then. While rushing, “Mitra, please continue stir the pot!” Shouted her mother. They were busy preparing a feast for the family to celebrate the happy news. It sure was something to be glad about as only five thousand Indian Tamils qualified for this citizenship.

“I missed you so much kavita!”
“How were your holidays?”Mitra questioned her Sinhalese bestfriend, kavita devi.“I missed you too!”“Not very fun as you was not beside me.”Replied kavita wholeheartedly. Mitra and Kavita had been good friends since the age of 5, since then they had been classmates. “This bond between us should never be broken,”“Best friends forever!”They screamed at the top of their lungs, while they skipped together hand in hand. Two wonderful years passed on. Year 1950 came.“Mother, mother!”“Why can’t I go to school?”“Why can’t I talk to kavita?” Mira questioned her mother sternly. “Mira, you are a big girl now, “Try to understand, Kavita is a sinhalese, the government just came up with the resettlement policy.” “This policy clearly states that Sinhalese peasants were transferred from the densely populated south western and central areas to Tamil areas.”“The only land that belongs to us is now going to be occupied by the Singalese. “Be a proud Indian girl and have some pride please.”“Keep away from Kavita.” Her mother sighed and walked away.

Five years later, Mira bumped into Kavita in the city. “Hi Kavita, How have you been?”“It’s been long time since we kept in touch.” “Come on let’s have a coffee and catch up with things”. They together went to the café and chat. They found out that they were going to attend the same interview. Couple of weeks later Kavita called Mira and told her that she got the job. Mira congratulated Kavita and was upset that she didn’t get through even though she had higher grades than Kavita. Mira did not get the job because she was not able to speak Sinhalese.

20 years passed, Mira was married with two lovely kids. Her two kids worked very hard in school in order to get into university to support their family but they could not fit into the new university admission criteria. They were frustrated. Most of their Sinhalese friends were able to get through the university though they had lower grades then them.

In 1976 a new political party called the Tamil United Liberation front emerged. They asked for a separate independent state in the north and east of Sri Lanka. Known more popularly as the Tamil Tigers, the LTTE is considered a terrorist organization. Children see the tigers as saviors. They felt that the Tamil Tigers would answer their questions and find justice. The only way to get out of the house was to join the Tigers. Mira’s kids had no choice but to join the Tamil tigers as soldiers. They were given military training. During one of the riots, according to their fate they died. This was not only Mitra’s children fate but most of the young Tamil Tigers fate too. That was how they ended their unhappy life.

This war turned out to bring bad name to Sri Lanka. Though the country was beautiful it did have as much peace. People wished that the war should end soon. But not all wishes come true and not all prayers are answered. Year after year passed. Finally one day, the Tamil Tigers were defeated. The leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was shot. That was the sad ending of the Tamil Tigers. Everybody was happy that the war was finally over. People of Sri Lanka hoped that it was the beginning of a new life, a much happier and peaceful one.
Deep down everyone knew that that state would not be for long. The question, that who is the next Velupillai Prabhakaran, lies as a mystery between everyone. They knew that the answer would reach them soon.

A disscussion on my career choice

As i have said earlier on,i want to become a teacher.I took this decision to become a teacher as i love children and teaching,When i used to be small i used to act ike a teacher and play with my cousins. Then i had a baby brother whom i used to takecare of most of the time.Thats when i had a love for children.Even if i see children walking on the street, i would talk to them or play with them.Thats when i decided that my career should be something involving children.

.I wanted to be a children's doctor, but i knew that i would get sad when i see the child crying in pain so i decided to be a teacher.I wanted to be a secondary school teacher. As a teenager myself i have many problems in my teenage life.

Hence being a secondary school teacher,i could try to be friendly to my students and help them in thier problems to ensure that they enjoy their teen life.As teen life should be the happiest and the time to enjoy life, most teenagers do not
understand the importance of education.I wish to educate teenagers and let them know the importance of education and that if they dont study now they cant have a good future.

Information about my career

I want to become a teacher. To be a teacher, i first need to have passion on a certain subject.Secondly i need to have passion on childrens.I think i qualify for both as i love maths,
science and childrens. To be a teacher, we need to have lots of patience and knowledge on that subject.

Firstly we should be keep learning as there is no limt for knowledge.Secondly i should do well in my O'levels and then do a course under teaching at MOE.After which i would have to attend trainings at schools as a training teacher. Finally when i have fully qualified as a teacher
i would be posted to a school to be a teacher. If i had gone to the university and gotton my degrees,i would be awarded with more salary.

To be a good teacher, i have to be friendly and strict at times.Punishments should not be too severe but reasonable. To be a good teacher,i must win the student's heart then only the students will respect me and listen to me.As a teacher, we must not only educate them but be their friend and understand their problems. These are some informations on being a teacher.
